Kansas State football has beaten Kansas 17 consecutive times, but can Collin Klein and Avery Johnson keep the Sunflower Showdown streak alive after two disappointing Big 12 losses? The Wildcats are coming off frustrating performances against Cincinnati and Houston, raising serious concerns about Kansas State's defense, offensive consistency and ability to compete in the Big 12. Now, Kansas State faces its biggest rivalry game of the season with enormous pressure on first-year head coach Collin Klein. Derek Johnson of Locked On Jayhawks joins Locked On Kansas State for a complete Sunflower Showdown preview, including the biggest matchups, X-factors, bold predictions and what this rivalry means for both programs. The biggest concern for Kansas State might be its struggling run defense. After allowing 271 rushing yards against Cincinnati and 233 against Houston, can the Wildcats contain former Kansas State running back Dylan Edwards? Edwards returns to Manhattan wearing a Kansas uniform, creating one of the most intriguing storylines of the rivalry. Meanwhile, Avery Johnson could be Kansas State's biggest offensive weapon. The Wildcats need Johnson to make plays with his arm and legs, especially with the receiving corps struggling to consistently produce explosive plays. Can Kansas stop Johnson from taking over the game? We also examine Kansas quarterback Isaiah Marshall, Kansas State's inability to force interceptions and whether turnovers could decide Saturday's matchup. Plus, what happens if Klein becomes the first Kansas State head coach to lose to Kansas in nearly two decades? Both teams are searching for their first Big 12 victory, and the loser could face a difficult road to bowl eligibility. We finish with score predictions, including why Kansas State's special teams could ultimately decide another dramatic Sunflower Showdown.
