Kansas State football suffered an ugly 35-16 loss to Houston, and Collin Klein's Wildcats are facing a harsh reality. After starting the season 3-0, Kansas State is now 0-2 in Big 12 play, with major questions surrounding its defense, offensive execution and championship expectations. Houston didn't just beat Kansas State. The Cougars exposed problems that have been building throughout the season. Avery Johnson finished with 182 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception, but struggled behind an offensive line that allowed consistent pressure. Kansas State managed just 117 rushing yards, while dropped passes continued to hurt an offense already struggling to establish consistency. But the biggest concern is on defense. For the second consecutive Big 12 game, Kansas State allowed more than 230 rushing yards. Houston finished with 233 yards on the ground, while tight end Patrick Overmeyer caught eight passes for 83 yards and four touchdowns. How does Kansas State allow the same defensive breakdowns to happen repeatedly? We examine the Wildcats' struggles with defensive alignment, run fits, linebacker coverage and whether the roster has enough talent to compete against the Big 12's best teams. We also discuss why Houston looks like a legitimate conference championship contender under Willie Fritz and what this loss reveals about Kansas State's rebuilding process. With Big 12 championship hopes fading, attention now turns to the Sunflower Showdown against Kansas. And that game suddenly carries enormous consequences. Former Kansas State running back Dylan Edwards returns to Manhattan, where the Wildcats must find a way to stop the run and protect their winning streak against the Jayhawks. Could a loss to Kansas turn Collin Klein's first season into something much more concerning? We break down the remaining schedule, Kansas State's path to bowl eligibility and why six or seven wins might be a more realistic expectation. The Wildcats aren't where they want to be. And the Houston loss made that painfully clear. #KansasState #KStateFootball #Big12Football Photo Credit: Evert Nelson IMAGN Go AD Free and More with the Everydayer's Club!
